About Us

The National Human Rights Commission established in accordance with Article 248 of the Constitution of Nepal 2072 is an independent and autonomous body. According to Article 293 of the Constitution, the committees of the House of Representatives can monitor and evaluate the reports of all statutory bodies other than the National Human Rights Commission and provide necessary directives or advice. Currently, the Commission has a central office, provincial offices in seven provinces, and branch offices in three provinces. As of the fiscal year 2082/083, a provincial branch office has been established in Jumla under the Karnali provincial office and is currently operational.

The National Human Rights Commission was established in the Karnali Province office in Birendranagar, Surkhet from the year 2079 BS, with the aim of ensuring easy access for all citizens and individuals. Various activities related to human rights have been ongoing in the 10 districts within the jurisdiction of this office. Focusing on issues of human rights along with an overall depiction of human rights in this province, this office has been continuously advancing monitoring and research-related work. The activities conducted by this office, along with the conclusions from monitoring and research reports, press releases, press conferences, etc., consistently aim to shed light on the status and condition of human rights to service recipients and the public. Before the establishment of this office, the Karnali Province branch office in Jumla had been conducting various activities related to human rights in the 10 districts within the jurisdiction of Karnali Province.
